Does my degree subject matter?
Not for Primary placements. Most subjects are acceptable for Secondary placements, but we are very keen to recruit Mathematics, Physics
and Chemistry students.
Will taking part in the scheme enhance an application for a teacher training place?
Absolutely. This will show an admission panel that you have had experience in a school and will make you more confident when you go
for interview.
Do I have to go into teaching?
No. However, the scheme is worth doing in its own right, as it will enhance your CV as you will be working towards some of the transferable
standards required by trainee teachers on a recognised government programme. It could become part of your Record of Achievement.
What do I do when I’m in the school?
Most of what you will do is practical, working with and helping individuals and groups of children under the direction of a Mentor. We provide
you with a number of observation tasks that will develop your understanding of, for example, the National Curriculum, class management and
lesson planning.
Will I teach?
It is hope that by the end of the placement you may be able to plan and teach part of a lesson or a whole lesson.
