Recruitment for the next Mathematics Development Programme for Teachers COMMENCING JUNE 2010 has now started. The TDA awarded EM Direct a contract to deliver this programme in the Yorkshire and Humber Region last year and the first course is currently running with 23 teachers from a range of schools across Yorkshire and the Humber and North East Regions attending.

The Mathematics Development Programme for Teachers (Click here to download the TDA Information Leaflet) aims to provide teachers with a greater understanding of Mathematics which in turn will make a significant contribution to raising the quality of Mathematics teaching with a consequential improvement in pupil performance and attainment.

The course is for serving Qualified Teachers whose highest personal qualification in Mathematics does not exceed A level, and have not undertaken initial teacher training in Mathematics. You will have been teaching significant amounts of Mathematics to learners aged 11-19, in a Local Authority Maintained Secondary School, Special School or an Academy, for at least one academic year. It is intended to improve the mathematical knowledge and skills of current secondary teachers who originally trained to teach another subject but who, for whatever reason, find themselves teaching Mathematics for some or all of their timetable.

If you teach in a Further Education College or Independent School you are still eligible to attend the course but you, or your employer, will have to fund the £2,000 plus VAT course fee as the TDA funding does not apply. Neither will you be eligible for the TDA Bursary payment.

Click here to Download the Application Pack. Please note that your application will need to be countersigned by your Headteacher. If you have any queries, please contact the Course Administrator, Sara Cook on Tel: 01476 512780 Ext 320, or email s.cook@emdirect.co.uk
