Supporting Teaching and Learning

By providing a better understanding of effective teaching and learning it is hoped that SBMs will have an enhanced awareness of how the resource decisions they take affect the quality of pupils’ classroom experience. In addition this workshop will explore the impact of the following human and physical resources on the quality of teaching and learning:

• teachers
• technology
• school buildings and environment
• support staff.

The workshop is targeted largely at SBMs who wish to deepen their understanding of what constitutes effective teaching and learning in order to improve the quality of their decision-making and other contributions to discussions with senior educational leaders in their organisations.

The aims of the workshop are to:

• develop a general knowledge and understanding of some of the theories of effective teaching and learning
• develop knowledge and understanding of how teaching and learning are evaluated in schools
• develop knowledge and understanding of the relationship between school inputs (teachers, technology, etc.) and its outputs (the achievements of its pupils)
• develop skills in measuring the impact of resources on teaching and learning.
