Schools in England have a long tradition of supplementing their state-funded income with self-generated income. The development of more autonomous modes of operation, which started with the introduction of local management of schools (LMS), has continued apace with the growth in academies and free schools, and has led to increased self-reliance and entrepreneurialism by schools. These developments have been assisted, in no small part, by the development of the role of SBM.
The main theme of this workshop is that whilst there isn’t a pot of gold waiting to be found – if anything the number of pots of gold is diminishing – schools that take a professional, strategic approach to income generation can gain significant additional funding. The workshop focuses on three areas:
