Leading Procurement in Schools
Whilst the focus of this workshop is on procurement strategies, processes and opportunities, these are framed against the need for schools to achieve value for money (VfM) from their purchases and to make their contribution to the best value requirement laid upon public sector organisations. Thus throughout the workshop there is a strong emphasis on how robust procurement systems can ensure VfM.
The workshop is targeted largely at SBMs with responsibility for both the strategic and operational aspects of procurement in their schools. It will also be of potential interest and value to other senior school leaders and school governors.
The aims of the workshop are to:

raise awareness of the national importance attached to school procurement in contributing to the achievement of VfM and procuring more for less expenditure

develop knowledge and understanding of the procurement cycle and the opportunities for efficiencies at each stage

develop knowledge and understanding of the legislative frameworks – local, national and international – that apply to school procurement activities

provide information on the sources of support and procurement services available to schools, both locally and nationally

develop knowledge and understanding of best practice in a number of areas of school procurement, for example, energy, catering and contracted services

develop the skills necessary for drawing up accurate specifications and tenders for goods and services

develop knowledge and understanding of the benefits of e-procurement
-
develop knowledge and understanding of sustainable procurement policies and practices

develop skills in contract management
-
develop skills in contract negotiation.
