How to get the most out of your SBM

The focus of the workshop is on the benefits to be gained through the employment or effective deployment of an SBM, either by an individual school or through a cluster arrangement. The workshop seeks to present the actual benefits gained from effectively employing an SBM, drawing on the wide evidence-base to support the proposition. Thus the workshop will have relevance to school leaders considering employing an SBM or seeking to review and enhance the current role of support staff.

The aims of the workshop are to:

• raise awareness of the role of the SBM and best practice in school business management
• develop knowledge and understanding of the technical functions SBMs carry out in schools
• develop knowledge and understanding of the contribution an effective SBM can make to the strategic development of the school
• provide information on the outcomes of research into the impact of employing an SBM on individual schools and clusters of schools
• raise awareness of the opportunities for sharing SBM provision through cluster arrangements.
